Two recs from ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/community.gif) lgbtfest over on LJ!
Turning Pirate by p0wdermonkey, R, PotC: pre-Bootstrap Bill Turner backstory. I loved the way p0wdermonkey set this so elegantly into the historical context-- it feels incredibly real, and drags you along through Bill's pre-pirating life wonderfully.
aaaand,
Being Liquid by rotaryphones, R, HP: Teddy/Victoire-- but emphatically not het. Teddy's gender, like the rest of him, is liquid. I love the characterization in this, especially of Teddy-- he knows what he feels, but occasionally there aren't really words for it (or, rather, he doesn't know there are words for it), and he just sort of takes words for his own purpose in a very realistic, endearing way. I also really like the OCs (not something you'll hear from me very often). They're there just enough to fill out the world, make everything feel right, but they don't overpower or take away from the story. |

-Solitaire.
-Staring at AIM, waiting for someone to come online and talk to me.
-Refreshing my email every two minutes.

Why the hell is no one online? I've just finished my hp_wankfest piece (which DESPERATELY) needs a beta, and possibly a spanking for good measure, and I'm incredibly close to done on my rs_games piece, too! Never has such accomplishment come so quickly, fic-wise, and I've got real-live porn and everything, and... no one to beta. No one to read and say to me calmly, No, Kirby, you're not crazy, this is just fine. Put a comma here.
Or, alternatively, Yes, Kirby, you're crazy. These characters would never do that, and this plot makes no sense and your descriptions are overdone and confusing and also you've misused eighty billion semicolons, go die now.
Either way, I really, really need it. Oy. |

I'm re-reading all my own fic. Surely this cannae be healthy, especially with the really old and/or unfinished stuff. I don't think I'll be able to sleep until I finish this half-done sex scene I just found on my drive, but damn it, this thing involves a lot of physics and existentialism and I just don't have the energy for that right now!
Argh.

Animalia by gyzym. James/Sirius, Remus/Sirius, James/Lily PG-13, summary: Everyone assumed that Sirius and James got on so well because they were exactly alike and they were all wrong; everyone assumed Sirius and James got on so well because they were both crazy and that was true.
I was asked to beta this and... basically squealed a lot and (sort of) flogged her into finishing. The characterization! The Peter-actually-existing! The Remus and his marmalade! The Sirius! I shall include an excerpt to tempt you:

A fascinating character study of James as a Right Prick, and how he goes around basically screwing over everyone he supposedly cares about as a mode of self-love, and just. Mm. Reeeeead it. |

I have new glasses! They're purple, and they make me look vaguely surprised, somehow. And new sunglasses! Prescription ones! So I can actually--gasp--SEE when I drive!
This is a Big Development in my life, you know. That, and, OOH. Anna and Kirby shall probably be braving the doomy traffic to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, which, nouveau swing band and they are really fantastic and we want to hump their legs. In a good way.
Other than that, no news. Well, besides the peculiar fact that I seem to be writing hetporn. Not only that, but it is squicking me and giving me bad dreams, but it's still... I feel compelled to finish and post it. Dunno why.

1. My hair is purple. I can't tell if this is a contagious condition or a genetic disorder, but currently all the females in my immediate family have purple hair.

On September 1, all of fandom over on IJ posts a piece of art or writing that has some sort of smut factor. It can be implied, it can be graphic, it can be raunchy, it just needs to be.
Why? Because after all the censorship issues on LJ, fandom needs to bring back the porn! Don't tell me you can't - one sentence, a doodle, all of it will do.
