old moon, pumpkin moon whose funeral pyre was lit long ago--
old moon my eyes are new moon with human footprint
who is dying, who may be dead
new moon uninteresting,
new moon neglected
sister mars stillborn
old moon your children are dying
one denounced, the rest starved
or starving
still not having eaten us

the old ways are dead
the poet is not priest
the poet is dead like the moon neglected

the taste of sleep is dead: replaced
with the jitterbug drug
the long silence of the throat is dead: replaced
with highly defined roar
(howless)

naught but electric brain-drippings now run through the pipes:
plumbing is dead
water is dead

Benjy is dead
curable, or now treatable
only cold sanity remains
glittering in dead moon's void
